To be compared to the Vedas, should the Divya Prabandham not have the qualities of “always existing” and “not created by any one”? Instead they appear to be created by Azhvars.
Acharya Hrudhayam 46: “sollappaTTa” enRa idhil karthruthvam, smruthi aththai svayambhu paDaiththAn enradhu pOlE.
Divya Prabandham says “kurugUr saTagOpan sollapaTTa AyirAm” (Thiruvaymozhi 8.10.11). Does that mean it was created by Azhvar then?
No. This is similar to the Smruthis saying Brahma created the Vedas – “anAdi nidanA hyeShA vAk utsrushTA svayambhuvA”; that is, the flawless Vedas were made by Brahma. Periya Thirumadal says “munnam thisaimuganaith thAn paDaikka maRRavanum munnam paDaiththanan nAnmaraigalai”.
Vedas are said to be created by Vedas just because they flowed from Brahma’s tongue, even though they have no origin. The same kind of authorship is attributed to Azhvar for Divya Prabandham.
